Modeste M’Bami, joueur majeur du Paris Saint-Germain et de l’Olympique de Marseille dans les années 2000, est décédé à l’âge de 40 ans, annonce l’agent de joueur Franck Belhassen sur Twitter. « Mon ami ancien footballeur international camerounais […] est parti aujourd’hui », a indiqué l’agent sur le réseau social.
Modeste M’Bami avait fait ses débuts en France à Sedan, entre 2000 et 2003. Il avait ensuite rejoint le Paris Saint-Germain (2003-2006) et l’Olympique de Marseille (2006-2009), où il avait disputé une centaine de rencontres dans chaque club. Le Camerounais, champion olympique en 2000, finaliste de la Coupe des confédérations en 2003, avait remporté la Coupe de France en 2004 et 2006 avec le club de la capitale.
M’Bami avait ensuite joué en Espagne, à Almeria (2009-2011), puis en Chine, en Arabie Saoudite et en Colombie. Le milieu de terrain avait conclu sa carrière au Havre (2014-2016), où il a disputé très peu de rencontres.
