Ils ont été emportés par le courant, à la suite d'une poursuite pour attraper un canard.
Le premier garçon était un élève âgé de 13 ans et l'autre un apprenti tailleur. Leur camarade rescapé avait alerté les voisins, mais c'était déjà trop tard.
Les corps des deux victimes ont été plus tard déposés à la morgue de l'hôpital régional de Kaolack.
